The idea of the AuroHost database has been floating around for many years in the Auroville International USA circle. Gordon Korstange first proposed it and began working on it with Nilauro Markus. Eventually Auroville International agreed to take up the project under the initiative of Bryan Walton. All three initiative takers, presently situated in USA, have lived in Auroville for a considerable time and have remained closely connected with it throughout the years. With a grant from the Foundation for World Education, AuroHost took its present form through the technical expertise of Aurovilian Manoj Pavitran and the Auronet developer team.
